Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) is actually one of the most common ailments of the intestines, affecting one in five Americans. IBS is also more common in women than men, and begins before the age of 35 in 50% of people that are diagnosed with it.

Some symptoms of IBS are nausea, vomiting, abdominal bloating, abdominal distention diarrhea and constipation. IBS causes a great deal of discomfort and distress. For some people IBS can be disabling, but for most it can be controlled with diet, stress management, prescribed medications, and regular visits to a gastroenterologist.
